After YOUR Surgery

Discharge Instructions: You will be given written discharge instructions for your care at home before you leave Herndon Surgery Center.

Returning Home: After you have returned home, be sure to follow the doctor’s orders regarding diet, rest, medication and activity. Unless directed, you should start your diet with clear liquids. In 4 to 6 hours, you may begin to eat solid foods. By the next day, you should be back to your normal diet. It is not unusual to feel sleepy, lightheaded or dizzy for several hours after your operation. Do not sign any important papers or make any significant decisions for at least 24 hours.

Questions: If you have questions or problems, please contact your surgeon’s office.

Follow-Up Calls: A Herndon Surgery Center Nurse will call you a day or two following your surgery to see how you are doing and to answer any additional questions you may have.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: DO NOT DRIVE A CAR, SMOKE, DRINK ALCOHOL, COOK OR OPERATE MACHINERY FOR 24 HOURS AFTER SURGERY.
